Just a few days to the World Cup. This is the first time for you. What do you expect from this review?
I would like to stay in front with the best ones to play a medal. After the first races where I did a bit of work, now I recovered. Nothing is known at the World Cup, everything is possible. Like last year at the Olympics: nobody could have bet on me and instead I was doing a big heats.
You are always looking for the first podium. What's missing for the quality leap?
Put all the pieces together, from training to the right set up. It is now essential to be 100% in all. Apart from Marcel Hirscher, the others are a bit 'all there in front of rotation just based on the right set up, if you trained well, if you're fit at that time. We need to put together a little 'everything to be able to make the first podium.
At the Are World Championships who are the athletes to beat to get closer to the podium?
Surely Marcel Hirscher who is the strongest. Almost all of them were the last gigamti. I saw Alexis Pinturault skiing very well in slalom, so I'm sure he's in good shape. In Are, the snow will be different from the one we found in the races until now, it's a good question to know who I'll have to beat.
Two years ago you were injured before the World Championships in Sankt Moritz. This year Michelle Gisin, your girlfriend. How important is your support, considering that you are an athlete too, in your races?
We help each other, even when we are at home we analyze the races together and try to understand what went well and what not because we have an athlete's eye. Michelle has always helped me a lot and I think I'm a support for her too. We never trained together, but we always feel. Even after a workout we give input and advice.
How is Michelle's brother, Marc Gisin, after the bad fall in Val Gardena?
She's fine, now she's doing rehab.
Did your fall affect you and your competitions on a psychological level?
Not about me. Clear that I was not so calm, I was a bit 'stressed because I saw Michelle who suffered a lot and then indirectly I have suffered too. But not in the race, also because after his fall I did the two best races of the season. Su Michelle had another impact, very hard, she had to skip the races and did not recover at 100%.
Are you in favor of using the airbag?
It's a theme where I do not want to go into it because I'm not informed and I'm not a downhill. I honestly do not know how much it helps and at what time it can help.
The giant team is struggling to achieve good results. What are the reasons for you?
There are many people who speak badly against our team without knowing the real facts. Even the media and journalists do not speak well and often come against us. I left that I was out of the 15 and now I'm back to being part of it. Riccardo Tonetti was more or less twenty-fifth in the rankings, now he is close to 15. Manfred Moelgg is a veteran, he is 36 years old. He's very good, but he's human too and he's wrong. It is no longer the Manfred of the years of the slalom cup, but it is still a great skier with a lot of technique despite his age. The youths are missing from the team, but we had to think about it first, about five years ago, when there was another technical director who was not interested in the European Cup athletes.
What are your goals from now until the end of the season?
Always stay in the ten, even in the 5, and hit the first podium.
