Marco Odermatt has clear ideas about his future, towards a 2020/21 season that presents many unknowns for the situation linked to Covid-19, but that the champion of the Canton of Nidwalden wants to prepare in the best way. The '97 Swiss class was planning a holiday between New York and Mexico, but obviously he was forced to continue home by training between running and cycling, being allowed to go out (albeit with some limitations) throughout this period spring.
Together with the reference mental coach, Odermatt explained how the analysis of last season in all its aspects has continued in recent weeks. "I reached the set goals and reached the top between super-g and the giant", Odermatt's words to the Swiss newspaper, also thinking about the ups and downs suffered mainly due to the knee injury suffered in the giant's 2nd round in Alta Badia.
Until then, Odermatt had wasted two great chances in Soelden and Beaver Creek, however, demonstrating an already absolute competitiveness between the wide doors, thus obtaining the first World Cup success in the Colorado weekend, in that case in the super -g on the "Birds of Prey". In the end, skipping a month of races and returning to Kitzbuehel in less than optimal conditions, the Swiss talent finished 7th in the super-g final ranking and 9th in the giant one, returning to the podium in February with 2nd place in Yuzawa Naeba.
And on the future and the consequences of the pandemic, Odermatt thinks that “the economic gap can widen further in various areas, for sport I think above all of the non-first class athletes. Will we learn something? I don't think, as soon as it is all over we will quickly forget about this going full throttle again, even if people might appreciate the little things again. "
