"In the last 15 years nothing has changed in skiing. Except the parallels, which nobody likes"

“In the last 15 years practically nothing has changed, but we have to make skiing much more attractive to viewers”. This is the synthesis of one of the main concepts that Alexis Pinturault expressed, in an interview with the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung: “People want entertainment, our sport must follow in the footsteps of an example like Kitzbuehel. The Streif is not just a race, but a show ”. The transalpine champion, fresh from his first triumph in the general classification of the World Cup, continued: “If we compare a race 10-15 years ago with the current ones, almost nothing has changed apart from the conditions of the tracks. On TV they see a photo of us when we are at the starting gate, practically the only innovation ... ". Pinturault talks about the need for a different television production, “with camera systems that can really show the difficulties and slopes of the competition ground, GPS data or even a camera in the pole, as Bode Miller did in Beaver Creek. It would be the task of the FIS to invest in the development of these possibilities ”. The calendar theme is always topical and, according to the transalpine champion, more breaks would be needed to allow athletes to recover better in an increasingly compressed season, and to re-discuss the question linked to parallels. “We athletes in general do not like it, the result depends too much on chance. And it seems clear to me that even the fans are not exactly euphoric about this type of competition ... ”.
