The Bolzano player has touched the podium several times in a specialty that is now his: at the World Championships in Cortina 2021 he will have a huge chance for the turning point.

At 30, he cherished the dream of climbing one of those three steps that he would objectively deserve, as demonstrated in the past two seasons in a discipline that sees him as the absolute protagonist and with great continuity.
After double 4th place in the combined world championship in Are and in that of the World Cup in Bansko, Riccardo Tonetti confirmed himself at very high levels also in the 2019/20 vintage, with three results in top five and ... three great regrets.
One concerns the Hinterstoder giant, his last race of the season and in which he was about to catch at least one top ten result, before dazzlingly derailed on the final bump of the "Hannes Trinkl"; the other two, on the other hand, relate to the fifth places combined in Wengen and on the same Austrian track, given that the fourth place in Bormio had seen the Bolzano player finish anyway far from the podium in terms of posting.
After a sensational descent on the shortened Lauberhorn, Tonetti wasted everything in slalom on the Maennlichen, on the day when the first career podium seemed almost done. The same or almost in Hinterstoder, even if in that case the track already deteriorated after very few passes (the blue was 4th after the super-g) saw him suffer a lot in the slalom heats. If the "Tuna" is now a guarantee in combination and the best blue for detachment, with the prospect of playing again something big in the test of the world championships in Cortina in just under a year, in the technical disciplines the best results have arrived between the giant Adelboden (16th) and slalom in Chamonix (19th).
Can you improve even in those race contexts? More complicated, but in the middle of maturity there is a potential top ten Tonetti in three disciplines (not to mention the parallel): far from trivial in the panorama of men's blue skiing.
