The world champion signs the first season by burning the master of the World Cup by 11 cents, again very close to triumph in the queen discipline. Third Mayer, off the podium Kilde, another black day for Italjet. Paris, the very difficult moment continues: no points for Domme.

A sprint descent, the third of the World Cup season, which told us something that will probably be very different on Saturday, on the occasion of the "classic" race on the Saslong, but in the opening of the triptych in Val Gardena we are faced with the two more technical sprinters around, capable of enchanting on Ciaslats and battling for success on the wire (with a race reduced by 40 seconds compared to the complete descent).
Vincent Kriechmayr returns to celebrate, for the first time in the season and the 13th in his career (6 in the queen discipline, of which he is the reigning world champion), the second on the Val Gardena snow after the super-g in 2019.
The world champion makes the difference in the final stretch, to burn Marco Odermatt by 11 cents, increasingly surprising and capable of... anything: if there was a track, albeit without the long initial plan, where everyone pointed to a leader of the general classification in difficulty, this responded to the name of Saslong. Well, the Swiss ace postpones the appointment with his first triumph in the downhill, taking the sixth place of honor in the specialty, but he takes the seventh podium in as many races of the season, even earning respect to Kilde thinking about the "coppo". All at his debut in the Val Gardena downhill...
The podium is completed by Matthias Mayer, third at 13 cents from his compatriot, with Johan Clarey fourth at 23 and the disappointed of the day who will turn out to be Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, only 26 cents but fifth after having missed the entry into the final schuss.
Obviously very short ranking on 85 seconds of track, so much so that Josef Ferstl is 6th at 28 cents, James Crawford 7th at 32, then Allegre 8th (+ 0"44) with bib number 51 and the other Swiss behind Odermatt who are Feuz and Rogentin, respectively 9th and 10th at half a second like Sam Morse, the best American who gives himself the top in his career.
It's another very difficult day for Italy: the best blue is Christof Innerhofer, 19th at 85 cents from Kriechmayr and 0”01 ahead of Guglielmo Bosca (from top ten up to the last intermediate), while Mattia Casse throws all about Ciaslat, when he was running for that dream of the first podium of his career and will be out of the top 25, with a delay of 1"11 and 14 cents ahead of Dominik Paris, even without points (like Marsaglia and Molteni) for what continues to be a really tough period for the national team ace.
