Voices from the Saslong. Casse: "Let's hope the fresh snow doesn't change things." Odermatt: "I'm going downhill for the first

After today's only test, the impressions of some of the great protagonists expected, from Thursday to Saturday, in the Val Gardena speed triptych. The blue, second today, worried about the weather while Kilde says he is satisfied with his first impressions and starts as the natural favorite for the two downhills and the super-g.

A particular training, as often happens in Val Gardena, with the highest numbers of favorites and Nils Allegre ahead of everyone, in what will remain the only official training session before the three races on the Saslong (double downhill on Thursday and Saturday, super-g in the Friday morning). In fact, Wednesday will be a day of rest to allow everyone to recover better before the tour de force which, until next Monday with the second giant in Alta Badia, includes five consecutive challenges in South Tyrol. Mattia Casse, second today at 5 cents from the best time of the transalpine, but in fact clearly the fastest of the first thirty who took part in qualifying, thus commented the day through the press office of the Saslong Classic Club organization. happy to be able to compete again in optimal weather conditions, after the bad weather found overseas - the words of the Piedmontese - The mountain landscape of Val Gardena is always impressive and the track, which is in excellent condition, will contribute to a great week of racing. Looking forward to the next few days, I hope it doesn't snow too much and that the new snow doesn't affect the track. I am quite satisfied with my performance in training. I think I did a good test, I'm improving from race to race and I'm on skis with more and more confidence. I don't have particular expectations for the descent: I'll just do my best, then we'll see what comes out at the end". Romed Baumann was in command for a long time, before Casse and then, over 50, Allegre, Fossland and Simoni arrived. Good 5th time trial for the German who defines “the track is a dream. I can only congratulate the organizers for the work done. The results obtained by those who had high starting bibs show that the track and the jumps are well prepared. My performance was very solid from start to finish. If I were to be able to do a descent like this in races as well, I'd be more than satisfied". “Here in Val Gardena my teammates and I always have a lot of fun - added Travis Ganong, confirming the good things already seen on his part, but also on Goldberg and Bennett, in today's training - We Americans grew up on slopes like this with many jumps, so on the Saslong we feel right at home. Today the snow was certainly not as fast as in the races, but some jumps were still remarkable. Let's see how the track develops in the next few days. During the descent I didn't always have the best sensations, but overall I can be satisfied with my performance. Kilde is the main favorite for the two descents, but we can also have our say. It would be fantastic if Bryce (Bennett, ed) managed to repeat last year's blow". Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, called into question, replies for his part (14th time today for the downhill and super-g leader, 8 tenths from Allegre): “Today's downhill went well. I tried to understand the track, because with its numerous key sections the Saslong presents different pitfalls every year, which is good to know in view of the races. I have a clear plan for the two downhills and for the super-g and I approach the races with confidence, even if obviously I know that anything can happen". Christof Innerhofer finished 25th, “making some mistakes, but in some sections, for example in the upper part, I was faster than in recent years. I have both good and bad memories of Val Gardena. This year there is definitely one more chance to get a good result”. Finally Marco Odermatt, the master of the World Cup who, on a track like the Saslong, could instead suffer a bit even in super-g. In Thursday's downhill, it will be his debut here at premier race level. “Yes, I'll be tackling the downhill in Val Gardena for the first time and it won't be easy to be fast here, but I'll give it my all. At the same time, I need to see how far my energy can go, because with five races in five days, a mammoth schedule awaits me. For the downhill I think Kilde and the Americans are above all the opponents, because here they always know how to express themselves at their best. For me, the hopes of a good result are certainly higher than expectations…”.
