After the success in the Team event on Wednesday, at the end of an exciting head-to-head with Germany, Italy played the role of the best actress also on the first day of the international phase of the Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup 2021, which ended with a booty of three gold, four silver and one bronze medals.
The blue team was close to poker, missed for off the track in the second heat of the South Tyrolean Jakob Franzelin, who at the middle of the race led the ranking in the under 16 slalom, then won by the Polish Jan Lodzinski. The winning treble for Italy were the daughter of art Lara Colturi (gold in the under 16 slalom) and the South Tyrolean under 14 David Castlunger and Nadia Trocker, the latter accompanied on the podium by her sister Anna, medal 'silver, for the most successful of family celebrations.
To complete the blue triumph were the Aosta Valley athletes Federico Vierin and Giorgia Collomb (second in the under 16 slalom), Alex Silbernagl (silver in the under 14 giant) and the ski club Cortina Edoardo Baldo, bronze in the Allievi slalom. The difficult situation linked to the pandemic did not give the possibility to some national representatives to reach Folgaria, but the event organized by the committee chaired by Fabrizio Gennari nevertheless confirmed its appeal, attracting athletes from 23 countries to the start, after the arrival of the last hour of the Spanish team. Italy was truly “giant” in the first race of the day, the under 14 wide-door test held on the Salizzona track, in a single heat.
After winning a double success at the national selections earlier this week, Nadine Trocker confirmed her leadership in the category also in the international arena. The promising standard bearer of the Seiser Alm Ski Team did not know any opponents and finished with a time of 46 ”03, followed in the standings by her sister Anna, a year younger. The latter finished with a gap of 1 ”48, with the German Rosa Anna Schwaiger third at 1” 65. The other Italians in the race also performed well: Beatrice Mazzoleni (Mondolé Ski Team) and Hanna Hofer (Amateursportclub Sarentino) finished fifth and sixth, not far from the podium area.
The Italian team also scored a double in the under 14 male giant. David Castlunger took the chair this time. The young athlete from La Villa, standard bearer of the Alta Badia Ski Team, stopped the clock at 47 ”62, preceding by 75 cents another South Tyrolean, Alex Silbernagl, who gave the third medal of the day to his ski club, the Seiser Alm Ski Team. Silbernagl preceded the German Jakob Stang by just 1 cent, followed in fourth place by Luca Loranzi, standard bearer of Sporting Club Campiglio from Trentino. If the under 14 blues went strong, the under 16 did the same in the slalom played on the Agonistic track. A new affirmation has come to women for Lara Colturi, who had already won a gold and a bronze in the Boys category last year. In her first year as a student, the daughter of the Olympic champion of Salt Lake City 2002, Daniela Ceccarelli, managed to confirm herself at the top of the rankings.
The Piedmontese dominated the first heat of the race between the narrow poles and in the second she was able to administer the advantage, ending with a 1 ”28 margin over the other blue Giorgia Collomb: the Aosta Valley member of the Ski Club La Thuile was put the silver medal around his neck, gaining a position in the second downhill, to the detriment of Luxembourg's Gwyneth Ten Raa, third with a gap of 3 ”57 from the winner. Good also the fifth place of Tatum Bieler (Sc Gressoney) and the sixth of Martina Sanin (Kronplatz). The thirty Ludovica Righi of the Edelweiss ski club finished her test in 12th place. Italy has touched the en plein, missed by a nothing. In the men's under 16 slalom, the South Tyrolean of the Ski Club Monte San Pietro Jakob Franzelin dominated the first heat, but in the second he went off the track, as he was about to take the steeper section of the track. Federico Vierin and Edoardo Baldo of the Cortina Ski Club from Valle d'Aosta, respectively, won the silver and bronze medal, 34 and 38 cents from the winner, Jan Lodzinki, not to regret his release.
The Pole climbed four positions in the decisive descent, guaranteeing success thanks to the second time in the heats. Good performance also for the Trentino from Val di Fiemme Sebastiano Zorzi, fifth at 86 cents from Lodzinski, after ninth place in the middle of the race, thanks to a comeback thanks to the second best time in the second fraction. Out in the first heat Andrea Francesco Armari, also from Sporting Campiglio.
Saturday will be repeated: on the Salizzona slope there will be the under 16 giant slalom, on the Agonistica the under 14 special, both in double heat for the grand finale of the Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup.
