As you know, today the men of the Wunderteam have resumed their skiing activities, with a small working group working in Soelden.
The Austrian Federsci opened the 2020/21 season by making the selected teams official, from alpine skiing to biathlon, from jumping to Nordic combined. In his queen discipline, the very president Peter Schroecksnadel (in office for at least another year) has a clear objective: to return to conquer the ranking by nations, left after more than 30 years of domination to the Swiss cousins.
There are five innovations in the national team for alpine skiing: four women are promoted in the main group, namely Franziska Gritsch, Nina Ortlieb (winner for the first time in CdM in La Thuile), Elisa Moerzinger (first podium in the PGS of Sestriere) and Chiara Mair, as well as Roland Leitinger among men. There are some surprises in the men's sector: only seven men are included in the national team, that is Schwarz, Matt, Reichelt (who at 40 years will look for the return after the serious injury of Bormio), Mayer, Kriechmayr, Hirschbuehl (inside thanks to the 7th placed in the inaugural slalom of Levi) and precisely Leitinger.
We find instead in team A, among others, Manuel Feller, back from a year with back injury and no top ten results, and Max Franz also returned with difficulty after the crash of Kitzbuehel 2019.
As many as 13 girls in the national team: the speed squadron made up of Schmidhofer, Venier, Siebenhofer, Huetter (eagerly awaited to return) and Ortlieb, is joined by Anna Veith, by a Stephanie Brunner called for the umpteenth return to the track, as well as by Liensberger, Schild (another luxury casualty), Gritsch, Mair, Moerzinger and Troops.
In team A here are some athletes who suffered last season, such as Brem, Puchner, Tippler, Scheyer, Haaser and Gallhuber.
