Garmisch-Partenkirchen presents the details of the candidacy: the race to the 2025 Alpine Skiing World Championship started

In search of three of a kind after hosting the 1978 and 2011 world events, when Innerhofer surprised the whole world.

With the document sent to the International Federation, Garmisch-Partenkirchen officially presented the details of the candidacy to host the alpine skiing world championships of 2025 yesterday. The Bavarian town, as announced last May, will challenge Crans Montana (which hosted the World Cup in 1987) and Saalbach-Hinterglemm, re-nominated after the defeat in the confrontation with Courchevel-Meribel for 2023 (dreaming of "recovering" the world championship after the one staged in 1991). There was time until September 1 to prepare the complete dossier, while the decision on the assignment of a world championship that will follow those in Italy, with Cortina 2021, and in France two years later, will be taken in the congress FIS of May 2020. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one of the cradles of the movement and, even in the 2019/2020 World Cup season, will host the classic double date first with the two men's races (downhill and giant) on 1-2 February 2020, then the week -end next with female downhill and super-g. If we think that Christof Innerhofer, just back on skis after the injury to the Cortina Absolutes, has openly declared that he wants to try all right to compete until the Milan-Cortina Games 2026, here is a possible success of "his" Garmisch for the World 2025, it would probably be greeted with a smile by the champion of Gais, who in that magical 2011 won three medals, with gold in super-g, silver in super combined and bronze in descent.
