The 2020/21 season was anything but simple. The coronavirus pandemic has also placed many obstacles on the way to the Saslong Classic Club. Obstacles that the team led by President Rainer Senoner has overcome thanks to professionalism and commitment, as was highlighted on Monday evening during the traditional annual plenary assembly.
In his speech, Rainer Senoner turned his gaze to last winter. Val Gardena, hosting one of the first stages of the World Cup of the 2020/21 season, played a pioneering role. The measures adopted worked perfectly, such as the safety protocol, conceived together with the Alto Adige Health Authority and in continuous dialogue with the head of the FIS races Markus Waldner, present at the plenary assembly. A job which many other events then took advantage of.
The two speed races on the Saslong were able to take place without any problem, with a perfect media coverage, distributed on the most disparate channels and all over the world. “We are very proud to have been able to run our classics without difficulty worthy of the name, to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. We are even more happy that the coronavirus pandemic has not had a negative effect on our balance sheet and that we have been able to close the accounting year in balance ”, underlined Senoner.
During the plenary assembly, the number 1 of the association also mentioned Val Gardena's candidacy for the World Championships. It is known that the Saslong Classic Club, in collaboration with the various authorities, the various competent offices, the tourism sector and not least with the local population, wants to organize world competitions that are as sustainable and respectful of natural resources as possible. “The provincial council, the majority of the political representatives of our valley and the entire tourist industry of Val Gardena support us. Even in the numerous conversations with the local population we were able to detect a prevalent enthusiasm for our intent.
In June the FISI will choose between the two candidates, Sestriere and Val Gardena. Should we be the winners of this internal selection, we would have two years to prepare our application, as it will have to be communicated to the FIS in 2023.
