The FIS keeps the new calendar: the council will approve it on October 9th, here are all the races

The 2020/21 World Cup will see men stop for two weekends after Lech / Zuers, Levi's double slalom confirmed for women and the great classics (for now) are safe.

Habemus calendar ... or almost. The FIS ratified the decisions taken by the various technical commissions today afternoon, meeting in video conference to remodel a calendar of the next World Cup whose puzzle is really complicated to fit, considering the Covid emergency and all the regulations related to the countries where you will have to compete. Only on 9 October will the official status arrive through the approval of the Council, but 39 races have been confirmed for the male sector and 35 for the female one, with the changes already announced and further few changes. Attention to a key requirement to save the races, obviously at risk in a winter where the evolution of the pandemic could affect everything: five weeks before the event, it will be necessary that the athletes of at least 7 of the top 10 nations in the ranking of the Nation''s Cup, have the authorization to compete in the country that will host the competitions, without restrictions related to mandatory quarantine. The men's calendar therefore foresees, after the Soelden giant and the parallel of Lech / Zuers (the only two appointments shared with women, apart from the finals), the last two weekends of November without appointments, considering the cancellation of the two stages North American, and the restart in Val d''Isère with the two giants on the Face de Bellevarde on 5-6 December and the fast races (downhill and super-g) on Oreiller-Killy on 12-13. Then the Italian campaign, from the races in Val Gardena to the remodeling of the two days in Alta Badia, with the giant on Sunday 20 December followed by the slalom and then, on Tuesday 22, by the classic night of Campiglio. Closing of the year in Bormio, as expected with descent and super-g on the Stelvio on 28 and 29 of the month. In January Zagreb is confirmed in opening (slalom on January 6), then the confirmation of the addition of a giant in Adelboden (double race between the wide doors on 8-9, slalom on 10), with Wengen having two descents (a shorter one) and slalom, sacrificing the combined that disappears from the calendar. Kitzbuehel does not touch anything with super-g, downhill and slalom from 22 to 24, then a slalom in Schladming with the night race on Tuesday 26 and instead a double challenge between the rapid gates, as anticipated yesterday by the French organizers, in Chamonix on 30- January 31.
