Switzerland towards all CdM competitions without an audience: "Unsustainable costs with the risk of Covid"

Bernhard Aregger confirms to "Blick": "An inevitable choice if the situation does not change". Adelboden and Wengen will be ghostly ...

Switzerland with its great classics without an audience, for the entire 2020/21 World Cup? Yes, it is very likely that we will run behind closed doors both in Adelboden and in Wengen, the two big events of the first half of January for the men's circuit, as well as in Sankt Moritz and Crans-Montana for women (Davos has already having canceled the double parallel of January 1st), while clearly he will wait for the March finals in Lenzerheide. As Swiss-Ski director Bernhard Aregger explained in detail to the “Blick”, “we must assume that, given this situation linked to the pandemic, we will go towards races without an audience”. In Switzerland, from 1 October it will be possible to open to the public (at 50% of the capacity) facilities such as football and hockey for the respective championships, but the main problem thinking about the Swiss World Cup competitions concerns the costs, as there are no fixed stands. "Yes, in case of cancellation 48 hours after the event, in addition to losing the revenues from TV rights, the costs of welcoming the public would have to be borne (about 130 thousand francs, ed), but it is really too great a risk". And the total cost of the races in such a particular situation as that of Covid? "About 10 million francs (almost 10 million euros, ed)", Aregger confirms, but the situation will be the same for many other races, which will understand their future in terms of possible presence of the public only in the coming weeks. Kitzbuehel itself is far from certain of being able to host it, in the most anticipated weekend of the winter, with the opening in Soelden that will already have to do without it during the weekend on the Rettenbach of next 17-18 October .
