Cortina d''Ampezzo is ready to host the fourth stage of the Grass Ski World Cup. After the first race weekends that took place between Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic, on 31 July and 1 August it will then be Italy's turn for the great return of the Ampezzo town, with the best specialists who will compete in two giant races. and super-g, on the Roncato di Socrepes slope.
The organization, by the Cortina Ski Club, counts on the patronage of the Municipality of Cortina d''Ampezzo, on the collaboration of the ISTA lift company and GTBell1. In recent weeks, the preparation of the track has been very complex, with the removal of stones, the finishing of the bottom and the sowing of grass. The track, approved for the occasion for the two disciplines, is in excellent condition, and will see the best athletes in the world challenge each other after the positive experience of 2019, when two special slalom races were held in Cortina.
Fausto Cerentin, technical director of blue grass skiing, is ready as well as his boys: "It is a pleasure to return to compete in Cortina, in a setting of great beauty, but above all in a very professional context, which are it will certainly guarantee the organization of two races of the highest technical level. Our team has already collected numerous victories and placings in the first stages of the World Cup, and I am sure that Margherita Mazzoncini, Edoardo Frau and all their teammates will be able to give great emotions in the two days in Ampezzo; Cortina is also an important moment of preparation in view of the next World Cup, scheduled in Stitna Nad Vlari next 7/11 September ”.
And Cerentin has summoned all the top blues for the occasion. Here is the Italy that will compete in Cortina, with 22 athletes in the running: Edoardo Frau, Daniele Buio, Nicolas Anziutti, Gabriel Bonaldi, Nicolò Pettini, Alex Galler, Lorenzo Gritti, Filippo Zamboni, Jacopo Facchin, Roberto Cerentin, Andrea Iori, Davide Nieddu, Davide Saviane, Marco Combi, Marco Milesi, Michael Bertagno, Otto Pasini, Ambra Gasperi, Monica Ferrighetto, Federica Libardi, Margherita Mazzoncini and Federica Milesi.
Frau is currently third in the overall standings with 390 points, against 580 for the Austrian Hannes Angerer and 465 for the Slovak Martin Bartak, but the Alpine leads the super-g classification with 200 points against Angerer's 160 and 110 for Bartak. Frau expects to stretch right in the home race, in Cortina. Among the women, at the top of the giant rankings are Margherita Mazzoncini and the Austrian Kristin Posch with 180 points, followed at 105 by Ambra Gasperi. The ambitions of the blue to climb the rankings are legitimate.
At least 50 athletes from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Iran are expected. About 40 people will collaborate on the track for the event, including track staff, gatekeepers and personnel employed in various support roles. In compliance with the provisions of the law in force on Covid19, all athletes and companions will be subjected to a rapid antigenic swab on the arrival day of Friday 30 July. The Roncato track will see the giant slalom staged on Saturday 31st, with the two heats scheduled at 11.15 and 14.15; Sunday 1 August the grand finale with the super-g, kicks off at 11.00. The races will be streamed on the social channels of Sci Club Cortina, ISTA and FISI.
