Apprehension at home in Sweden for Anna Hedströms: the biathlete born in '97, hospitalized for a few days in the Umea university hospital, was transferred to the intensive care unit. The young athlete was diagnosed with blood clots in both lungs, so she needed to be admitted to the high-intensity ward, where she is still under observation.
Hedströms suffered first problems during a training with the national team in Idre Fjäll, once her condition worsened she needed to be hospitalized.
Another negative news for the Swedish winter sports world comes from cross-country skiing: Linn Svahn, specialist in sprint races, as well as winner of six races in the World Cup last season, has announced that he will not take he neither participates in the Beijing Olympic Games nor in the rest of the World Cup season. The reason for his forfeit dates back to the shoulder injury dated February 2021, during the Ulricehamn stage, not treated promptly due to the subsequent World Championships in Oberstdorf. Only in September the medical staff of the Swedish national team opted for the operation, hitherto avoided with conservative therapies.
"Morale is really low, because I knew that if I operated on in September the Games would be a mirage. Seeing all my dreams and sacrifices made up to now vain disappear saddens me a lot, but at the same time it charges me to get back in shape and above all stronger than before, with new challenges to face "- said the 21-year-old native of Lycksele.
Svahn's career won a Sprint Specialty Cup in the 2019/2020 season and can boast nine World Cup successes, six of which last season. For the young Swede, the Olympic debut has been postponed, which unless other unforeseen circumstances will arrive in 2026 on the Italian snows on the occasion of the Milan-Cortina Games.
For cross-country skiing this is the second package of the day in view of the new season: this morning the Czech Katerina Razymova announced her pregnancy, which will prevent her from competing in the Olympic season.
