Emanuele Becchis, on Saturday in Trento, won the Italian Sprint Roller Ski Championship for the seventh consecutive time, and it is the ninth victory in the Trentino capital of the three-time world champion. A very intense afternoon, which began with the qualifications also of the youth categories and therefore of the absolute competitions for males and females with all the specialists in search of the tricolor title.
Not that for the new world champion, Emanuele Becchis from Cuneo, in his third world gold, it was a walk. He easily got rid of Zanon in the round of 16, in the quarterfinals of Morandini, in the semifinals of Munari, then in the final he found himself face to face, head to head with the timeless Alessio Berlanda who - in spite of his 41 years - up to the 140 meters (of the 165 of Corso del Lavoro e della Scienza) was really there to fight for a trifle, then Becchis gave us that extra coat of panache and Berlanda, three world titles on the bulletin board for him too, realized that he would have had to settle for second place and took his foot off the accelerator.
For the Cuneo rider it was the culmination of a great season with his seventh Italian title. His technique is superfine, frequencies in thrust to the limit of the incredible, but really Berlanda was not far behind. New, beautiful, fast and short route as Alessio and I like it. We hope we have given a bit of a show, we enjoyed it. As always, they are good races and so we close the World Championship season and look forward to next year, hoping for many other challenges with Alessio who certainly cannot close now, he cannot give up. This new location at the Muse is beautiful, but I preferred the center to get people excited and to look for the public, but it is still wonderful to compete here in Trentino ”.
Alessio Berlanda smiles at the end of the race: “I am quite happy, a second place is what I hoped for better or worse, even the qualifying went well despite some mistakes, I was not so far from Emanuele. Then the semifinal with Michele Valerio went and in the final with Emanuele I knew he was the strongest, I tried to stay close to him. To beat Emanuele you have to find the right day and be lucky in everything. It was so hard to get ready for the sprints. I'm happy with the new location, nice and fast asphalt that responded on the wheels, the square footage was right. We hope it can also be done for the next few years ".
Sabrina Borettaz, world gold in her pocket too, had started with the underdogs. In the quarterfinals he beat Bernardi, in the semifinal Tenze and in the final the "revived" Chiara Becchis was found, absent from the competition fields for quite a while. Chiara, the roller skis in the DNA like the brothers Emanuele and Francesco, once again showed her determination, she came close to victory, but Sabrina was galvanized by the world success and wanted the tricolor at all costs. The final was a head to head between Tenze and Ghiddi and the first won.
In the youth competitions successes for Edoardo Trombetta and Maria Invernizzi (Children) and for Marco Combi and Nicole Falanelli (Pulcini), good at showing a good technique, so the coach of the roller ski Michel Rainer could rub his hands satisfied. On Sunday morning the competitions move to Monte Bondone with the Italian Mass Start Cup in classic. It will be a crowded race, over 250 at the start and there will also be the world champion Matteo Tanel, who wants to win the Italian Cup of which he is leader.
