The FIS race director Walter Hofer has announced the intention to German website skispringen.com to create a real revolution in the format of the races of ski flying, with tests that could be done since Summer Grand Prix.

To begin with all the athletes will face the qualification, therefore disappear the status of "pre-qualified" for the top ten in the overall standings of the World Cup.
I qualified for the race will remain 40, but will be divided into 4 groups of 10 athletes each based on the position in the overall standings of the World Cup. The best will in group 1, group 2 in the second, the third in group 3, group 4 in the fourth, the fifth in Group 1, the sixth in Group 2, and so away.
In the first series each group will present separately at the start, then jump to get the athletes to a group, and those of the next. Gain access to the second series the top 6 of each group.
The second series will be then at 24 men who will start based on the result of the first. However, the final standings of the race will be determined solely by the score in the second series. In other words competitions flight become a sort of test on 2 shifts completely separated from each other.
Walter Hofer explained that during the summer,'' the format should be tested in the Summer Grand Prix (obviously not in races flight, but on the Large Hill) where the athletes will be allowed to route 48, with a consequent increase of the members of each group to 12 units.
At the moment it is just a proposal sent to all national federations, which have 4 weeks of time to submit an opinion. The final decision on this will be possible revolution taken during the FIS Congress in Barcelona in June.
