Martins Dukurs drops the trio, ex-aequo triumph with Tretiakov! In the solo women of Nikitina, Margaglio fifth!

The Latvian obtained in Igls the third victory out of three races disputed this season, this time tied with the Russian Alexander Tretiakov; another Russian, Nikita Tregubov, completes the podium. In the women's race (disputed with a dry heat) clear success for the Russian Elena Nikitina in front of the Dutch Bos and the Austro-German couple Flock and Hermann, ex-aequo third; 5th place for an excellent Valentina Margaglio.

The third stage of the Skeleton World Cup, staged on the Austrian track of Igls, reserved several twists. In the men's race the Latvian Martins Dukurs took the third consecutive seasonal success, but this time he came on a par with the Russian Alexander Tretiakov, able to recover 14 cents from Dukurs in the second heat. Third place for another athlete of the Russian team: Nikita Tregubov, third just two cents from the winners. The British Matt Weston slips into fourth place from the first provisional ex-aequo, while the German Alexander Gassner closes 5th. Back the blues: the best is Mattia Gaspari 15th, 17th instead Manuel Schwaerzer, Amedeo Bagnis did not start due to back problems. The women's race, on the other hand, was the subject of several twists: during the first heat the weather conditions worsened and the jury decided to cancel the first part of the race, counting only the second race as valid for the final result. The race was therefore won by the Russian Elena Nikitina, author of a splendid test, behind her was the Dutch Kimberley Bos, the real surprise of this season on the third podium out of three races. Third place ex-aequo for the German Tina Hermann and for the Austrian Janine Flock (who was leading in the canceled heat). Beautiful performance, but with some regrets, that of our standard-bearer Valentina Margaglio: the Alessandria ends in 5th place (she was fourth in the canceled heat) but only 4 cents from the podium. Our athlete set the best time in the push phase and if she hadn't made some inaccuracy in the first corners, the podium would have certainly been within her reach. Alessia Crippa also did well, fourteenth, with her best career result. Margaglio said she was satisfied with the test and confident for the rest of the season through the FISI channels: "It was certainly a special day with the cancellation of the first heat, I started very well in both heats, then I committed some errorino, which I happen to do in every race. This, however, must give me even greater awareness of my means for the next races, where I can still improve a lot ". The Skeleton World Cup next week will always remain in Igls. We remind you that the whole bobsleigh and skeleton season, including the world championships, will be visible in clear text on Sportitalia (digital terrestrial channel 60) and on the Sportitalia app, downloadable from IOS and Android.
