In Altenberg the first two heats see the German lead, with the blue quite far from the dream of the podium.

The 17th women's world championship in the skeleton has started, and there are no shortage of surprises on the Altenberg track. The two most consistent athletes lead after the first day of competition, with the German Jacqueline Loelling signing two very precise heats, except for a mistake in the last corner of the first and the usual penalizing push phase, preceding 11 cents for the Russian Elena Nikitina, who had finished the first segment in command. For the Muscovite a phenomenal start with some imperfections scattered around the Saxon track.
In third place is the number one favorite, the other Teutonic Tina Hermann who makes some mistakes in the upper part of the first run, even ended in 11th place, but in the second the music changes considerably, the German clearly stamps the best heat time that allows her to recover positions and tenths on her rivals. Given the margin shown, she can probably be considered the most credited contender for the gold medal. More detached all the others, with in fourth place a welcome return to the high positions for the American Katie Uhlaender, with the 36 year old from Vail constant in both descents. Fifth was the young Russian Tararychenkova.
Tenth place for the blue Valentina Margaglio, for two heats where the Piedmontese was the best of all in the push phase, but some imperfections have prevented her from an even better placement so far, given that the sixth place of the German Greibel is far away just 27 cents. Good performance for the other Italian in the race, Alessia Crippa, with a few too many mistakes in the second descent that put her in 22nd partial place. Among the disappointments of the day the Canadian Maier, 19th, and above all the Austrian Janine Flock, 15th, with the winner of the CdM who completely breaks the first descent and must say goodbye to any hope of a podium right away.
Tomorrow morning (3rd run at 9.00 and 4th run at 10.30) the two decisive heats that award the medals are scheduled.
