The FIL, in agreement with the organizing committee of Beijing 2022, has decided to cancel the World Cup stage that should have been held in Yanqing in the brand new "National Sliding Center", the venue chosen for the luge, bob and skeleton competitions. of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
The reason for the cancellation is clearly linked to the problems due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with restrictions that would make it very difficult for athletes to travel to China. FIL president Einars Fogelis said that in autumn 2021, in all likelihood, it will be possible for teams to carry out tests on the Olympic track, so that they can study it in view of the Olympic event.
Furthermore, FIL is already working to find a location to replace the Yanqing stage, which should have been the venue for the finals; at this point the fate of the pre-Olympic bobsleigh and skeleton races is also uncertain, since biathlon and luge have already had to raise the white flag.
