The World Cup restarts in Italy, with appointments from 15 to 17 January that see Lanthaler and companions as obligatory favorites.

The best natural tobogganists will be the protagonists in Val Passiria next weekend for the restart of the World Cup. On the “Bergkristall” track in Plata, a fraction of Moso, from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January a total of seven races will take place during a double stage of the maximum circuit that saw the Azzurri start very strong also this season.
The organizing association, Rodelverein Passeier led by the head of the organizing committee Hubert Folie, is well prepared for this great challenge. International toboggan competitions on natural slopes have a great tradition in Val Passiria. “In our long history we have organized a World Cup, two European Championships and five World Cup stages. Also here with us, moreover, the champions of Italy have been decreed twice and for once, instead, the Intercontinental Cup has been run. Then a large number of competitions at local and provincial level must be added, which took place on the "demanding Bergkristall slope".
This week, therefore, the World Cup will stop for the sixth time, the second in a row, in Val Passiria. For the local champion Evelin Lanthaler these will be very special races; on the one hand, because it was precisely on the Bergkristall slope that it was formed to become the best natural toboggan runner in the world and because it contributes to the success of the beloved South Tyrolean stage within the organizing committee. On the other hand, because the athlete, who has won the general classification of the World Cup four times, could celebrate his 30th success in the maximum circuit on his home track.
So far the 29-year-old Italian, who also triumphed over Bergkristall last year, has achieved 29 victories and 55 podiums overall. The other tobogganists who will have to defend their 2020 victories in Val Passiria are also South Tyrolean champions: Alex Gruber (men's single) and the double team Patrick Pigneter / Florian Clara. The blue team will be completed by Stefan Federer, Mathias Troger, Matthias Lambacher, Patrick Lambacher, Nadine Staffler, Daniela Mittermair and Greta Pinggera, but we can also look forward to the return of Thomas Kammerlander, one of the great rivals of the Italian squadron.
The Austrian, who in the last 4 seasons has won the World Cup, has had to give up his season debut in Winterleiten and will be back in the race these days - three weeks before the World Cup at home in Umhausen. With the seven races planned, the competition program in Val Passiria is challenging. After the day of training on Thursday 14 January, on Friday 15 the first winners will be announced. After the first heats, which will start at 9, the winner of the men's single will be established shortly after 11.
About an hour later, however, the winner of the women's single will be announced. The final of the doubles is scheduled at 2 pm. The races on Saturday 16th January will begin at 10 am with the first descent of the doubles, followed by that of the female single sleds (10.30). The final of the doubles is scheduled at 11.15, followed by that of the women's single (12). Finally, on Sunday, men's single (final at 11 am) and team competition (12.45 pm).
