After the short track with the first two events in Montréal and Salt Lake City, the 2022/23 Speed Skating World Cup kicks off from Stavanger.
From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November here is the first stage of the maximum circuit, with an Italian national team, led by the technical director Maurizio Marchetto, ready after a long journey of preparation to get back into the game on the most prestigious stage. Nine athletes called for the Norwegian opening and for the next appointment in Heerenveen, in the Netherlands: they are Serena Pergher (Fiamme Oro), Laura Peveri (Fiamme Oro), Francesco Betti (Fiamme Oro), David Bosa ( Fiamme Oro), Daniele Di Stefano (Noale Ice), Davide Ghiotto (Fiamme Gialle), Andrea Giovannini (Fiamme Gialle), Riccardo Lorello (C.P. Pinè) and Alessio Trentini (V.G. Pergine).
A young formation, with four rookies in the World Cup at senior level - Pergher, Peveri, Di Stefano and Lorello - and without important men such as Rosanelli and Malfatti unavailable due to injury and Francesca Lollobrigida absent for a momentary break from competitions, agreed with the federal technical staff. It will be the Olympic bronze of 10,000 meters in Beijing 2022, Davide Ghiotto, to lead the blue troop (about 5000 and in Team Pursuit). "The last training tests of Inzell's team on the ice went well and confirmed what I had in mind regarding the call-up for these first stages of the World Cup - explains Marchetto - The goal in Stavanger is certainly to do well. with the most experienced athletes of the group and, at the same time, to give the young people we have included in the team the opportunity to gain experience at these levels without the pressure or the worry of the result.
In the longer term, we need to try to confirm the places we have earned in the World Cup, so many that at the moment we don't even have the skaters to cover them all ”.
The blue technical director will be assisted on site, both in Norway and in the Netherlands, by the coach Matteo Anesi and with the physiotherapist Gabriele Zazzarini following the team.
