The fifth race of the Ski Cross World Cup, at the opening of the classic San Candido event, gave many thrills, even in the form of falls, the triumph of two great champions and a little blue with a very good Jole Galli.
On the Baranci track, the livignasca gave herself the best result of her journey in this discipline which has just begun, and there is no shortage of regrets for what happened in the semifinal that could have brought her into the first 4 positions, given that the contact with Maier and Berger Sabbatel (later admitted to the big final, which the Frenchwoman however had to skip due to the physical consequences of the blows suffered) cost her dearly, with relegation to third place and therefore only access to the small final, where Galli took home the seventh final square. Lucrezia Fantelli, great third Saturday in qualifying, had instead been eliminated in the previous round.
The victory went to a simply impressive Sandra Naeslund: domination right from the qualifiers and in all knockout rounds, as well as in the final where the cup leader beat eternal rival Fanny Smith and Canadian Brittany Phelan.
The men's test went instead to Kevin Drury, who ruled the Swiss Bischofberger and the Austrian Rohrweck with a margin, while the Swede Erik Mobaerg, ahead of everyone in qualifying, finished fourth. Nothing to do for the great blue hope, Simone Deromedis, out in the round of 16 like Dominik Zuech.
The Trentino rider will try to make up for it on Monday, in the bis race in San Candido which will close 2021 for skicross.
