The countdown in Valmalenco has begun: on 23-24 January the Snowboard Cross World Cup begins

The Lombard location is ready to host what will be the first appointment of the season, with the blues led by Moioli and Sommariva starting among the favorites: there will be two individual matches instead of the planned team competition to close.

Finally the snowboard cross season is about to begin, after a thousand cancellations and postponements. If Michela Moioli and her companions can test themselves in the first FIS competitions of the weekend in Colere, the great appointment is set with the inaugural stage of the 2020/21 World Cup, January 23-24 in Valmalenco. The best snowboarders in the world, both in men and women, will compete at full speed along a track of 700 meters that features numerous passages with adrenaline-fueled bumps and curves; it will start on Friday 22 January with the official qualifying day, at 10.15 for women and at 11 for men, while on Saturday 23, starting at 13.30, the first day of real competition will start with the individual race . On Sunday 24 January, however, at 2.00 pm it will end in style with another individual CdM test, instead of the scheduled team competition. In this way, at least, the FIS recovers one of the many races canceled so far in a calendar that currently includes only the final stage of Veysonnaz. There will be live coverage on Rai Sport for an event that, of course, will be staged behind closed doors: "SBX World Cup Valmalenco is now less and less missing and we are really happy with how we managed to carry on the project even though we are very sorry for the stages that have been canceled - comments Francesca Vismara, Pr & Marketing Director Valmalenco Bernina Ski Resort - Right now we are focused on the last but fundamental details of the race: from the construction of the slope to the organization of the starting ramp, to make everything perfect and ready for athletes ”. The sponsors who have believed in the project from the beginning are also ready at the starting gates: from the title sponsor Grana Padano DOP, to LISKI Sport Equipment, the technical sponsors Elleerre and Kässbohrer PistenBully and the territorial sponsors BIM, CREVAL and the Province of Sondrio, in addition to the fundamental support of the Lombardy Region. “An Olympic specialty of great spectacle, snowboard cross will animate our splendid mountains for three days. Plenty of snow and a high-level course await the big world champions for the first event of the year ", underlines Antonio Rossi, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Lombardy Region with responsibility for major sporting events and Sport - Playing at home will give the Italians and strong stimuli to the blues. Due to the Covid-19 emergency, unfortunately, they will not be able to count on the warmth of the public for great occasions. Anyway, I will be cheering on the track and I will make our team feel the support of the whole Lombardy, I promised Michela Moioli. Also for Valmalenco this appointment is of significant importance. Two rounds of the Cup with such close dates represent, in fact, a great challenge but I am sure that the organizers will do, as in the past, an impeccable job ”. Furthermore, a fundamental role in support of the event is given by Cancro Primo Help Onlus, which has always been active in the sports field, and clearly by FIS and FISI.
