A first day full of smiles in Italy, for a national snowboard cross team that led most of its athletes for the final draw of the first individual competition of this World Cup, scheduled for Saturday (starting at 13.30) on route of Chiesa in Valmalenco.
It was Raffaella Brutto who signed the best time in the qualifications of the women's test: the Genoese was amazing, behind Eva Samkova and Belle Brockhoff, probably the main rivals of the blue, with Michela Moioli today with the 5th time and confident with a view to the race. "A qualification in these conditions is always a lottery - declared the Olympic champion and World Cup holder talking about the weather and a really tough day under a heavy snow - Saturday we start from scratch, with identical conditions for all, I am very confident and energized ”.
Sofia Belingheri, sixth, Francesca Gallina tenth and Caterina Carpano 12th also passed the cut; the latter will be in the second quarter-final with Moioli, while we will not surprise the French Trespeuch, eliminated with the 24th time, the same Bankes (28th) and Lindsey Jacobellis, only 34th.
In the men's field, the Canadian Eliot Grondin finished in front of everyone in 47 ”12, ahead of the French Merlin Surget and Omar Visintin, third at 59 cents. Also promoted Lorenzo Sommariva, 17th, Filippo Ferrari 26th and Michele Godino 32nd and on the wire, nothing to do instead for Tommaso Leoni (40th), Matteo Menconi (44th), the very young Niccolò Colturi (54th) and Thomas Belingheri, who finished 64th .
