We are now, from next weekend the season for many winter disciplines will come alive, despite the uncertainty linked to Covid and already many cancellations.
To see Michela Moioli and the protagonists of snowboard cross on the slopes of the 2020/21 World Cup, however, we will have to wait a few more weeks. There are still doubts about the inaugural stage of Montafon, from 10 to 12 December, and about this situation and much more the same champion from Bergamo, guest of the Eurosport in-depth broadcast, "Poligono 360", with Dario Puppo and Massimiliano Ambesi .
In training in Cervinia, “where we will stay until the days before in Montafon, then I'd like to prepare myself in Livigno during the Christmas period”, Michela said she was very satisfied with her preparation. “The training so far has been really good, I'm in great shape and I'm fine with my mind, but the situation is really absurd and the debut itself is in doubt. We could even leave in Bergamo after the cancellation of Cervinia, we feel powerless and embittered in the team, even though we are used to long breaks considering our calendars. Of course, it's frustrating to train all year to compete in 5-6 races, and maybe not even those this season ... ”.
A record-breaking woman for Italy, but with little chance of increasing her records: "I would do anything to compete, the problem is that instead of increasing our visibility as a movement, reaching fifteen appointments, we are getting worse . Of course, building tracks for our discipline is complicated, but making more use of the glaciers and the possibility of competitions like in New Zealand, beyond the situation this year with Covid, would be useful for everyone ".
A passage to the parallel? Ambesi's question reopens a topic already addressed in the past: “Last year I put this idea aside, because I wanted to focus on another World Cup to win. It is clear that if we were to go on with snowboard cross so sacrificed, maybe I would think about it. I hope a solution will be found as soon as possible ”.
Michela is only missing world gold, in China in February (with some doubts that the world championship is regularly staged) there will be another opportunity on the track that will then host the Olympic Games in February 2022, to attempt the legendary bis after PyeongChang 2018. As Dario Puppo himself pointed out to the Italian champion, a certain Alberto Tomba had to wait until the Sierra Nevada World Cup was moved one year to complete the collection, he who in odd years suffered a ... curse . “I too have always won in even years, it's true, among other things, the pre-Olympics have never done me well, given that the World Championships would be competed on the same track as the Games. In any case, I hope for a long and demanding track, the ones where I can express myself to the maximum ".
In Bergamo, on the other hand, for the historic appointment scheduled from 22-24 to January 2021, the Olympian will face an unprecedented track, but for her full of meanings: "I have always dreamed of coming down from the walls along a long and perfect also as slopes, but compared to the original idea it was not possible to do this, relocating everything in another area. It will be a super sprint of 150 meters, obviously due to my characteristics it will be more difficult, but I have improved a lot on the start sections by training a lot in this type of situation. It would have been nice to have the Atalanta fans present, but it won't be possible. Certainly, winning at home the year following the Covid emergency, after everything that has happened in my city, would be simply colossal, almost like an Olympics ”.
