After a season spent mainly in the IBU Cup, the first call-up for the World Cup has arrived for Stina Nilsson.
The now former Swedish cross-country skier, gold in the Olympic sprint of Pyeonchang 2018, on Friday, in Oestersund, will make his debut with the rifle on his shoulders, almost a year after his surprise announcement regarding the decision to switch from skiing to background at the biathlon. For the 27-year-old Swede it will certainly not be easy to obtain an important result, also because she herself admitted to having had some difficulties with the new discipline, especially shooting.
For an athlete, who in her career has won twelve races in the World Cup in cross-country skiing, experience will play a fundamental role in her new adventure. In Sweden there is a lot of anticipation for his debut in biathlon, where so far in the IBU Cup he has obtained an 8th place in the pursuit of Brezno as the best result; surely making her debut on the snow at home in Oestersund will be an extra stimulus for her.
The coach of the Swedes Johannes Lukas motivated his call-up as follows: "Stina has shown good form on skis, for her commitment and for her growth I think it is right to allow her to compete in high-level stages."
