The young man from Imer, author of a great start to the season, was chosen instead of his South Tyrolean teammate (still far from the best condition) to support Dorothea in the exhibition event with the great protagonists of the biathlon, scheduled for next 28 December in Gelsenkirchen.

A debut at just 22 in a unique context such as that of the Veltins Arena, the stadium in Gelsenkirchen which once again hosts "Biathlon Auf Schalke", the now traditional post-Christmas appointment which attracts tens of thousands of spectators and will be held in the evening on Wednesday 28 December.
The debut will be that of Tommaso Giacomel, engaged in the World Team Challenge alongside Dorothea Wierer and replacing Lukas Hofer: the official announcement came today from the German organisation, but it was an almost natural choice given that the veteran of the men's national team, who has not yet been able to make his debut in the 2022/23 World Cup due to tendon problems that forced him to miss the stages of Kontiolahti, Hochfilzen and Le Grand Bornand, with the hope of finding him again for Pokljuka or, more likely, in mid-January in Ruhpolding.
Giacomel is experiencing a great start to the season, with the 6th place in the Hochfilzen Pursuit as a gem, in addition to the amazing relay fraction in the same Austrian location. Considering the quality and speed at the range of the young man from Primiero and Wierer, Italy can think of trying to play it to repeat the success of 2018, when Dorothea won, in fact, paired with Hofer.
