The season will no longer start from Kontiolahti, as the original calendar predicted, but from Oestersund, which will thus host the first two stages of the next Biathlon World Cup.

With an official note through its channels, the IBU announced that, due to the current socio-political situation in Belarus, the scheduled stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Minsk from 3 to 6 March 2022 will not take place.
The decision was taken together with the various Organizing Committees, National Federations and their teams. Following this provision, some changes to the calendar of the 2021/2022 season were also necessary: the World Cup will no longer start in Kontiolahti in Finland, but Oestersund will host the first two stages of the World Cup. The Swedish location, which was originally supposed to host the second leg of the new season from 2 to 5 December 2021, will double its commitment by also welcoming the opening of the 2021/2022 season, with the first race scheduled for 27 November 2021.
The Kontiolahti stage, on the other hand, will be staged from 3 to 6 March 2022, effectively replacing the Minsk stage. In Finland, therefore, the first post-Olympic Games in Beijing 2022 will be held.
