The news had been in the air for some time but it was made official by the Swedish media in the weekend just past: Stina Nilsson abandons cross-country skiing and goes to biathlon.

This is certainly not the first case of a cross-country skier who engages in the "cousin" discipline and is currently more popular, but undoubtedly the most sensational, since it is a star of cross-country skiing.
The 26-year-old from Malung can be considered one of the two strongest sprinters of the last four years: she is the Olympic champion in charge of the Sprint and boasts 23 successes in top-level events.
A meteor that could revolutionize the values in the current women's biathlon and become a star or go off and fall into mediocrity. Much will depend on the feeling with the rifle.
In the past the same path was taken by compatriot Magdalena Forsberg, who with a much lower palmares in the background became a biathlon star, conquering 42 successes.
In recent years, the most significant step has been that of the German Denise Herrmann capable, after a break-in season, of climbing the hierarchies step by step up to the top of the discipline.
Waiting to see her on the track with the rifle on her shoulders, for the moment it is a victory for the IBU and a defeat for the FIS, which loses one of the main protagonists of the cross-country skiing panorama.
