Miki Ando: "Now I am a different person from the champion of 2011"

Following the women's short program competition at the Golden Spin in Zagreb during this weekend  a small press conference was held.In addition to Korean Yuna Kim also former world champion Miki Ando has been able to express herlself to the press. The athlete, as well as answering questions of the Japanese reporters, was kind enough to translate her own responses from Japanese to English for the benefit of the European media in the room. Here are Ando's statements gathered for us by Dunja Ivic.

On her short program performance: This is the first time I tried 3toe-3toe in competition. I used to do 3toe-3loop. I know today my combination was a little cheated, but I am happy I still managed to land it. The judging system is very punitive to mistakes so doing triple-triple is a risk.

What changed in your mentality in the competition?

My mentality doesn't really change. It is more about my health. After I gave birth my muscles were gone and It was hard coming back to skate. Now I feel fine, but after competition I have no energy. Before I came here I went to hospital in Italy. I don't know what will happen to my body. It is more about my health than set of mind.

I dont really care about the result. Now there is no dream to be a champion, medalist. I am always focused on the performance. My goal now is to show my emotion to the audience. To let them catch my message. I was happy when I won Worlds, but today I am a completely different person than I was (when I won Worlds).

Regarding competing in Zagreb back in 2001. : My international debut competition as a novice was at Mladost trophy and I wanted to come back so much! I remember everything. Everything is the same. I remember the hotel. I am very happy to be here again.

(On her chances of making it to Sochi) I first need to become member of national team. I came to Zagreb via invite and I am grateful about that. I think my chances now are getting higher. I need to perform well in long program and repeat clean performances at Nationals.

(On new coach and training in Milan) I am very happy with my new coach. I train in Milan because that is where he is working. He is very precise and knows exactly how to help me. He is very strict, but he also know how to help me get over tough times and we get to laugh and joke during practices as well.

COACH Valter Rizzo : "This is a much better performance  than in Graz. We planned it this way. I am quite happy today. The spins got low levels, so we will work on that. We are improving and I believe we will be ready the Nationals. "
