Ester Ledecka has perhaps arrived at a crossroads in her career, given that at 24 and after the double PyeongChang Olympic title she has already reached a dimension that goes beyond the champion; the first victory achieved in the Ski World Cup, last Friday at Lake Louise, confirmed the following day by the fourth place in the downhill in Canada, worth the defense of the red bib of leader of the specialty, could have changed something in his head.
Here, in fact, that the Czech manager, Viktor Valta, confided that Ester will be at the start of the Sankt Moritz weekend, Saturday and Sunday with super-g and parallel slalom, thus giving up the parallel giant of ... snowboarding, in the program always on December 14th in Cortina, as well as the next stage of Carezza. Today he will land in Monaco, arriving from Calgary, then he will head to Switzerland to train.
And on the approach to the weekend of 21-22 December, when in Val d''Isère they will run downhill and combined, Ledecka will have to face the tests on the Oreiller-Killy; the decision is taken, the aim is to defend the leadership and then in January we will see, even if it transpires that there is no intention to give up the table, participating in the first days of 2020 in the Lackenhof competitions, then later in those of Scuol, Bad Gastein and Rogla.
On the occasion of the appointments in Switzerland (11 January), and two weeks later in Piancavallo (25-26 January), Ledecka would however have the opportunity to compete downhill at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, in the fourth round of the season's specialties, and in the second case at the Bansko fast races. That will be the key moment to decide on what to bet, based also on the situation in the respective World Cups (Ester has already renounced the opening competitions in Bannoye), given that after the tests in Bulgaria, there will be another two week- end with descent and super-g between Rosa Khutor and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, to arrive until mid-February.
What is certain is that having decided to compete on Corviglia on Saturday, despite the only small point collected in the first seasonal super-g in Lake Louise, and also in the parallel of the following day, shows how Ledecka wants to immerse itself more and more in the world of alpine skiing, so much so faced a full month of training at Nakiska, before the Lake Louise races, dividing daily between skis and board training.
It will look like a particular character, in reality it hides an extraordinary determination to write new pages of snow history.
