After the ordeal of injuries and returning to the World Cup last season, more than three years after the last time, the 23-year-old from Castelrotto can dream again.

Her career seemed over, after three surgeries in less than two years, but Verena Gasslitter finally saw the light again on January 11, competing in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee descent more than three years after her last race, the cursed super -g of the World Cup in Lake Louise on 4 December 2016.
On that Italian evening, the sprinter from Castelrotto fell destroying her left knee (cruciate and meniscus), but the displaced fracture of the tibia, in the same leg, was even more serious, remedied in training in Ushuaia in September 2017, when the class' '96 South Tyrolean was trying to return. Another operation followed, almost a year later, to remove the screws and plate from the previous surgery, but even in 2019 things didn't seem to be improving for Verena. Then in the last few months the turning point and, in the middle of winter, the return to the national team for the first training sessions and the call-up for the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee descent.
On 11 January 2020 here is the return to the World Cup and, even if it was evident the difficulty of being able to express oneself even close to its levels, thirteen days later in Bansko's first descent the first point of his career in the World Cup arrived. World. No others have arrived in the subsequent races, until the final super-g in La Thuile, but it is in this summer 2020 that the South Tyrolean can really build the basis for a return to good levels.
Inserted in the multipurpose group that has already started working in June at the Stelvio and will be back on track in Cervinia from the week after August 15th, Gasslitter will restart, if the calendar is confirmed, precisely from the fast races at the beginning of December in Lake Louise, to cancel the ghost of four years earlier and go back to dreaming.
