Jacqueline Wiles back under the knife: collarbone knocked out in Val d''Isère, but the return should be quick

The crash in the super-g last Sunday cost the 28-year-old American sprinter the stop, who seemed to be launched towards the high level after the ordeal suffered for the pre-Olympics injury 2018.

The double podium obtained by Breezy Johnson in the two runs of Val d''Isère brought the United States back to the front in women's speed (with Ryan Cochran-Siegle meanwhile on the podium in Val Gardena) who, after the era of Lindsey Vonn and except for the results of Mikaela Shiffrin, they had also suffered a lot from a series of injuries occurred to the best and prospective athletes, as in the case of Jacqueline Wiles. After two very difficult years, the ''92 class from Portland was finding themselves on more discreet levels, obtaining two points on the Oreiller-Killy with a 23rd and an 18th place. Bad luck, however, hit the stars and stripes team again: Alice McKennis Duran, very fast in practice like Johnson, fell to compression in race 1, thus skipping the second descent and the super-g, waiting to better understand her conditions (although the first checks excluded fractures). On Sunday, however, Wiles was knocked out. Today the same sprinter announced on social media that there is a fracture in her left collarbone, operated on the same day and that will keep her out for a not too long period; difficult to see her for the next weekend of speed in Sankt Anton (9-10 January), but “this time I'm not out, even if physically at the moment I'm ... down”. Far more serious was the February 2018 injury in Garmisch, which cost Wiles the PyeongChang Olympics and a very long recovery period, with the left knee cruciate knocked out, as well as the fibula and tibial plateau. This time the road will be decidedly more downhill.
