Surprise retreat: Ylva Staalnacke leaves the competition at just 27 years old. "I want another life"

In the height of the season, the Swedish slalomgigantista has decided to hang up her skis. A choice of life gained ... before a workout.

A decidedly surprise retreat, in the middle of the season and by an athlete in the middle of his career and with still moderate results. Ylva Staalnacke announced today, at the age of 27, the immediate farewell to skiing and competition, after having played on January 14th (without qualifying for the 2nd run) the 54th and his last race in World Cup in Flachau slalom. In fact, that evening the Swedish slalomgigantista did not know that she would no longer wear a bib, given that the decision was made a few days ago, before a workout. "I had some thoughts in this regard, because I always thought I had to do it on the day when I no longer felt I could give 100% - Ylva said - A week ago, I was about to face a workout and there I understood I wanted something different from my life. I have other dreams to fulfill. " Staalnacke will devote herself to the physiotherapist activity and would like to work in the future in the world of sport and, if possible, always in the white circus: “I am proud and happy of my career, even if I have never reached the level of the best. It is a possibility that few athletes in the world have, but it was still a wonderful journey ”. For Kiruna's Swede, he remains the best result in the World Cup just over a year ago, when he finished the Semmering slalom in 14th place, while this season he had achieved a 23rd in Killington and a 27th in Zagreb, always between the narrow posts.
