Christof Innerhofer had promised it: "I'll be back soon, sooner than you think".
And so it was, because just 144 days after the serious injury that occurred in Cortina, in the super-g of the Italian championships that cost the Gais champion the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee, "Inner" put the skis back on, on the snows of the Stelvio Pass.
Of course, the complete recovery is still a long way off, but the times are all there to begin to get serious already by the end of the month, when the Alto Adige descentist will return to training for a more complete training on the Stelvio slopes. The goal is clearly to make it through the first fast races of the 2019/2020 World Cup season, scheduled for late November at Lake Louise.
"I put on my skis and it is a great joy - the first words of Innerhofer at the end of the short session on skis, in which he was accompanied by Plancker and his skiman Ales Kalamar - When you wait for so long to do something and then it comes that day, you feel the happiest person in the world. I felt like a child putting on his skis for the first time and I had good feelings. The coordination of the knee is fine, obviously I didn't force it much, because now I have to grow step by step, without being in a hurry. Now my skiing will be more like a therapy, more than a real training, but I am confident as always ".
Innerhofer had toasted with his fans last Sunday during the classic summer party at Speikboden, which celebrated the grand return of its champion in advance.
