It's opening time, and we can finally say, also for the 2020/21 European Cup.
After so many postponements and cancellations, on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December here are the male giants in the ski area of Gurgl, in Tyrol. And it will be a very young Italian national team, the one that will present itself at the starting line of the continental season, on the wave of what has been done so far with a "Talent Team" that promises very well.
Ten are called up by the youth technical director Massimo Carca for the appointment on the Austrian snow (both races have two heats scheduled at 10 am and 1 pm); perhaps the most awaited man responds to the name of Giovanni Franzoni, born in 2001 already on a podium of the European Cup, albeit at the first experiences, in the combined Sella Nevea of the 2019/2020 season finale, but who already seems ready on several disciplines and sees an open door also for the World Cup.
With the two giants of Santa Caterina Valfurva scheduled for 5-6 December, the one in Gurgl will also be a sort of test for Hannes Zingerle himself, one of the "veterans" of the group with his 25 years. In addition to the badiota and Franzoni himself, Matteo Canins, Pietro Canzio, Giulio Zuccarini, Tobias Kastlunger, Filippo Della Vite, Matteo Bendotti, Luca Taranzano and Alex Hofer, the South Tyrolean class '' 94, will also take to the track in the two European Cup giants. he won a place by winning immediately on his seasonal debut, in the FIS giant of Solda.
