Ramon Zenhaeusern works with his thumb

After being injured last 16 December in training in Folgaria at the thumb of the left hand Ramon Zenhaeusern will undergo surgery.

Zenhaeusern will be operated tomorrow at the university clinic of Balgrist, Zurich, to rebuild a partially broken lateral internal ligament. Swiss Ski's medical staff has little hope that the 26-year-old from the Canton of Valais will be at the start of the New Year's City Event in Oslo, but everything will be clearer after the operation. With special protections Zenhaeusern managed to compete in the slalom of Saalbach-Hinterglemm last Thursday and Madonna di Campiglio yesterday, finishing tenth in the first race and failing to qualify for the second heat on Canalone Miramonti.
