Curtain 2021 or 2022? Mayor Ghedina speaks: "Ready for both plans"

Speaking to "Radio Cortina", the first citizen of the pearl of the Dolomites on the possible slip and timing for logistics and infrastructure.

Just under a month and it will be known if Cortina d''Ampezzo will return to host an edition of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2021 or 13 months later, as officially requested (last May 25) by FIS by Cortina 2021 Foundation, FISI and CONI. On 1 July the decision on whether or not to grant the postponement to March 2022: the organization feels strong with the support of some leading federations (Austria above all), but the vote of the next council of the International Federation should be hanging in the balance, as many want to avoid a world championship event a few weeks after the Beijing Olympic Games. Interviewed by Alessandra Segafreddo during the "Giornale delle Dolomiti", the mayor Gianpietro Ghedina took stock of the situation 8 months from the original date of the World Championships, scheduled from 8 to 21 February 2021: "We would still find ourselves ready for those dates, if our proposal is not accepted - the words of the first citizen of Cortina - It is clear, for us, the 2022 solution is preferable, but the construction sites have already been reopened. The pandemic worries a little less in Italy, but we don't know what will happen globally, the scenario is not so clear and we would like to be able to work with greater guarantees for a complete World Cup, with the presence of the public and everything that revolves around this". At the level of connections and road maintenance, km of infrastructures and services, starting from the communication networks, “between autumn and spring we have completed many works, now there is a series of asphalts to be carried out in the coming months. Cortina will be ready, both in the case of plan A and plan B. "
