The FIS can only navigate on sight considering all the unknowns related to the global pandemic, but in these days of meetings, which began obviously last Sunday in a video conference between the various commissions and working groups, has put three hypotheses on the plate to save the 2020/21 World Cup.
As Geoff Mintz reports on skiracing.com, plan A for the dispute of a complete calendar or in any case also including the first extra-European races in late November, from the women's technical tests in Killington to the fast ones for the male sector in Lake Louise, it is still considered feasible. The second option would lead to a circuit with only races on tracks of the old continent, but there is also a plan C that would see not only addressing this solution, but see only European athletes in the race. It is clear, it would be the most extreme solution in case the protocols prevented international travel and travel, but at the moment not to be excluded.
During the first meetings, the regulations to be followed for the management of the competitions were evaluated, as well as the possibility that they will be played in a single location for men and women. In any case, nothing definitive will be decided during this week of the spring congress, but there is an important date for the FIS and the organizers, with whom the contracts will have to be defined. It is that of the 1st of July, by which much more should be known about a realistic calendar for a World Cup which will in any case be very particular.
