In the next autumn meeting, the FIS will formalize the change of the most discussed specialty: already from the 2019/2020 season new formula to rebalance the contest

The Alpine combined has led, especially in the last 2-3 years, to spark controversy among experts and athletes themselves, due to the imbalance created between specialists in fast disciplines and technical skiers, given the almost absolute domination of the various Pinturault, Hirscher, Muffat -Jeandet, Schwarz ...
The turning point is around the corner: in the next World Cup, there will be three specialty races (with relative crystal ball) with super-g combined with the slalom. The epochal change was first proposed by the president of the Austrian federation, Peter Schrocksnadel, to keep alive a historical specialty of alpine skiing: the order of the races will remain the same, with the fast test (in 99% of the cases, also in the following years, it will always be a super-g) to precede the slalom, but valid as a sort of pole position for the heat between rapid gates.
There will therefore be no reversal of the 30, but the best time in super-g will start first in the slalom, the second will do the same and so on; a move to favor the sprinters and allow them to play with a better track than the pure slalomists.
In the FIS congress just ended in Cavtat-Dubrovnik it was decided, from a future perspective, to treat combined and parallel in the same way, inserting 3 to 5 races for each specialty in each of the next World Cup seasons (in the 2019/2020 will be 3 each). The same goes for the big events, with the combined medals of individual and parallel (which will make its debut in Cortina 2021, as known) that will be assigned to the World Cup and the Olympics.
