During the closing ceremony of the 45th edition of the Alpine skiing world championships that took place in Are, today there was the symbolic passage of the flag of the International Ski Federation.

The banner passed from the hands of the Swedish organizers to those of Alessandro Benetton, head of the blue delegation and president of the Fondazione Cortina 2021, organizing committee of the world championship held in Italy in Cortina d'Ampezzo, from 8 to 21 February 2021 A formal act that marks the official launch of the organizational path that will bring Cortina to host the most important sporting event in Italy in the coming years with over 600 athletes from 70 nations who will fight for the 13 world titles to be won.
In receiving the flag, Alessandro Benetton wanted to greet the organizing committee of Are 2019 and the athletes (virgolettos taken from fisi.org): "It is an honor for me to be here today to receive the baton of the organization of the next FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. We are all still in the eye for a moment that will go down in history and that has characterized these days: the embrace and tribute of the Ingemar Stenmark legend to the champion Lindsey Vonn who, with her bronze in the downhill race, has decided to conclude here an extraordinary career that has seen her so closely linked to Cortina, where she has triumphed numerous times. Stenmark and Vonn are among the most beautiful examples of skiing in the world: 2 talents of two different generations who have thrilled us and who are all our admiration. The championships of Are have shown us once again how much the sport can excite, how much is growing around the world the passion for skiing and how much are followed the big events on different media platforms, not only on TV. We talk about fantastic opportunities for visibility and communication for the territories that host them and for the economy of mountain areas. We are therefore aware of receiving an extraordinary legacy of which we feel the full responsibility. We would like our World Championship to really inspire future generations, both in sports and in the field of innovation and care of the natural environment, because the legacy that we leave behind is an integral part of the project. A journey full of challenges awaits us that we want to live with commitment and great enthusiasm ".
With Benetton at the ceremony was also the mayor of Cortina d'Ampezzo, Gianpietro Ghedina who commented: "Being here these days was a very important experience to acquire the know-how in the field to plan and manage the best the next championships that will be held on our Dolomites, a World Heritage Site. We were greeted with great cordiality and friendship and the Swedes therefore owe our thanks. Now begins the real countdown of a path that will see us busy every day together with the Foundation to make us find ready and to win the great challenge of an event that promotes the name and the beauties of Cortina all over the world ".
In Are, Fondazione Cortina 2021 was present with a large working group composed of representatives of all the areas, this group supported the organizing committee of Åre 2019, giving a concrete support and thus putting in place an exchange of expertise for the management of the great event; the goal was to support and learn as much as possible to ensure that the next world championships can record even higher levels of quality, safety and technical skills. So officially begins the countdown to the alpine skiing world championships of Cortina 2021: the flag of the FIS will arrive in the famous Ampezzo village and will be celebrated during the next Italian Alpine skiing championships scheduled in the Queen of the Dolomites from 18 to March 23 next. An unmissable opportunity during which the Vertigine and Druscié A tracks will be inaugurated, together with the blue athletes, where the World Cup races will take place.
