Peter Schroecksnadel wants to keep the Alpine combined, which is still standing in the World Cup calendar drafts at least for the next season, as well as for the Cortina 2021 world championships.
In an interview with Krone Sport, the number 1 of the Wunderteam (whose political weight is obviously relevant to address the decisions to be taken at the FIS congresses) proposed a formula that foresees the descent before the slalom, with the inversion of the manches already happened several times in the Cup due to weather issues.
"My proposal is to attract the public again, shortening the time between descent (or super-g) and slalom and reversing the races - the Schroecksnadel analysis - This should increase the chances of success for speed specialists, given that the best downhill racers now have few chances starting with 30 in slalom and therefore a more damaged track ".
The president of the OESV wants to present the proposal at the FIS congress scheduled from May 28th to June 1st in Dubrovnik. In addition, the Tyrolean manager has a different idea on the classic race calendar: "Speed races on weekends and more slalom at night, during the week and at the same times. Everyone knows that the Champions League football is played in prime time every Tuesday and Wednesday, we must get closer to that model ".
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The FIS early May deadline concerned the nominations for the 2024 and 2025 world championships.
As for alpine skiing, Saalbach Hinterglemm confirmed its presence after losing the race with Courchevel-Meribel for 2023, but will find on its way, in addition to Crans Montana with an important project, also the novelty of Garmisch-Partenkirchen , the place that compared to the others has already recently hosted the world championship (in 2011, ed).
Everything is much simpler for the other disciplines: only one candidacy and assignment now certain for Trondheim (Norway) in Nordic skiing for 2025, Harrachov (Czech Rep.) For the skiing world championships in 2024 and Krasnoyarsk (Russia) for snowboarding and freestyle in 2025. A first briefing with the candidates is scheduled at the FIS congress in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, with details to be submitted by September 1 and the final decision that will take place in the May 2020 assembly in Thailand.
