The Women's World Cup has had a false start, from the cancellation of the giant of Soelden to the preventive one of the two descents of Zermatt-Cervinia, but it is not even certain that the seasonal opening will become that of next November 12, on the occasion of the parallel of Lech / Zuers (followed the next day by the men's one), but you could also go directly to the Levi slalom (19-20 November), those not particularly in danger at present.
While at home Austria discusses the recovery of Soelden, with priority in the hands of the OESV which could divert the race to Semmering (where a giant and a slalom are already scheduled, on December 28-29), the third edition of the the race on the Flexenarena is in the balance, just over a week from the snow check, set for next November 3rd.
Premise: Lech / Zuers is the simplest appointment to prepare in terms of snow, as it runs on a track of just under 400 meters in length (with 102 meters of elevation gain). The point is always the same: even at high altitudes, since in the Vorarlberg we are still over 1700 meters above sea level on arrival, the temperatures will remain very high at least until next weekend and, probably, also in the first week of November.
Markus Waldner himself, during the captains' meeting in Soelden, on Saturday evening after the news of the cancellation of the men's descents in Zermatt-Cervinia, addressed the organization of the parallels in Lech. “Get ready to produce snow, because there will be none from the sky”.
The Flexenarena, in fact, 17 days after the women's race is completely "green", but the same organizers of the second Austrian stage on the calendar, at the Vorarlberg regional ORF, have leaked confidence, underlining how a couple of nights will be enough to below 0 ° in order to set up the entire race track. It will be necessary to do it in time for November 3, then hoping that any rains do not go to ruin all the work done, as in fact happened in Zermatt-Cervinia.
