Lorenzo Gritti immediately back on the World Cup podium: 3rd in the Rettenbach super-G won by Schoen and Abrahamova

International grass skiing has finally resumed after more than a month and a half on the sidelines, with the World Cup stopping in Rettenbach.

On the Austrian slope, it was time for the super-G today, and one of the home athletes, Leopold Schoen, stole the show in the men’s event, beating overall leader Marcel Knapp by 39 hundredths. Just 0”05” behind the German came another podium finish for Lorenzo Gritti, who in turn finished ahead of Czech skier Ales Knor and teammate Michael Bertagno (+ 0”68), the second Italian in the standings. Nicolò Pettini was 8th, Filippo Zamboni 11th, while Daniele Buio, who surrendered valuable points, was 13th, Roberto Cerentin 14th, Bryan Agostini 17th, and Mark Mastalli and Elia Gasperini rounded out the standings in 23rd and 24th place, respectively.

Among the women, Sarka Abrahamova led a Czech one-two, edging Eliska Rejchrtova by 12 hundredths. Rejchrtova remains firmly atop the overall World Cup standings, while Lara Teynor finished 3rd on the day, 0”20 ahead of teammate Hetfleisch and Koryntova.

Gaia Cassone took ninth place, Lisa Anastasia Lucchese finished 11th, and Federica Libardi was 14th.

On Sunday morning, the two giant slaloms will take place.
