FIS and Junior Cup races in Tambre: Italy dominates grass skiing with Gritti, Seganti and Nicole Mastalli

The super-Gs at this weekend’s FIS and Junior Cup events in Tambre saw Italy’s grass skiing team dominate proceedings, starting with Lorenzo Gritti’s triumph in yesterday’s men’s speed race, in which the veteran from Bergamo led an Italian one-two-three-four.

The national team leader prevailed by just one hundredth ahead of Filippo Zamboni, with the athlete from Trentino then finishing ahead of Nathan Seganti, who was just five hundredths behind and therefore took first place in the junior standings, with Michael Bertagno fourth at 0”46. Italy’s supremacy was also underlined by Daniele Buio’s seventh place and Bryan Agostini’s 11th.

There was also a superb Italian victory in the women’s race, courtesy of an outstanding performance by Nicole Mastalli, who finished ahead of everyone in 41”60, beating Austria’s Lara Teynor (who won the youth category) by no fewer than 94 hundredths and Slovakia’s Nikola Fricova by 1”12. Margherita Mazzoncini finished eighth, while Lisa Lucchese was 12th, completing the Italian championship podium since the super-G also counted towards the national title.

The Italian top three in the women’s junior super-G were Lucchese in first place ahead of Vittoria Palano and Rachele Gatto, while the men’s podium saw Seganti ahead of Bertagno and Agostini.

The giant slalom will take place today at the Belluno venue.
