Lanthaler is unbeatable in the opening of the World Cup: his also the relay with Alex Gruber

Tobogganing on a natural track: Italy dominant in the first stage in Umhausen, for the South Tyrolean also comes the 2nd place in the single.

After the victories of Evelin Lanthaler in the women's singles and of Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara in the doubles competition, the Italian national luge team on a natural track concluded the two days that inaugurated the World Cup in Umhausen. On the Tyrolean gut, Alex Gruber's 2nd place in the men's single also arrived, with the 29-year-old from Bolzano preceded only by a champion like Thomas Kammerlander, faster by only 8 cents. Third place for the other Austrian Michael Scheikl, delayed by 21 cents, and four blues, including Gruber, occupy the top ten: Florian Clara got a good fourth place with a gap of 57 cents, sixth Patrick Pigneter at 1 ”33 while Mathias Troger is seventh, at 1” 96 from first place. Italy completed its formidable weekend by also conquering the success of the relay. A triumph that has never been in question, with Evelin Lanthaler who already secured a huge advantage over Austria at the first intermediate, allowing Gruber himself to do his own race without pressure. In the end, the Azzurri won in front of the hosts and Russia. Next appointment with the Sledding World Cup on a natural slope, again in Umhausen, from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 January.
