Curling: another international tournament gets underway today for three Italian teams, with Casper and Paetz (winners in Oakville) starting as the favourites. In Saville, the women's team led by Rebecca Mariani continues its campaign.

The Canadian campaign, crucial for determining which Italian team will represent Italy at the European Championships starting at the end of October in Ostrava, continues with another major tournament: the AMJ Shorty Jenkins Classic.

Still on the ice in Ontario, but this time in Cornwall, 20 teams will take part in the men's event from today through Sunday. Among them is Team Casper, who have just won the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard, as well as Switzerland's Hoesli team and two Italian teams. Team Retornaz reached the quarter-finals in Oakville and will be back in action with Joel Retornaz, Alberto Pimpini, Andrea Gilli and Stefano Gilli. Also returning are Alberto Zisa, Francesco De Zanna, Francesco Vigliani and Mattia Giovanella, who had a good run last week despite not reaching the final stage.

Knocked out in the quarter-finals by Xenia Schwaller and her teammates, who remain among the favourites, Giulia Zardini Lacedelli, Marta Lo Deserto, Elena Antonia Mathis and Rachele Scalesse will also be back in action with ambitions among the 18 teams taking part in the women's AMJ Shorty Jenkins Classic. However, Team Paetz are the favourites for the Cornwall tournament.

The women's schedule also includes Team Mariani, featuring Rebecca Mariani, Giada Zambelli, Camilla Gilberti and Letizia Carlisano, who will compete in the Saville Grand Prix from tomorrow through Monday, 21 September.
