A great show, staged by the organization of Cancro Primo Help Onlus, and a double Austrian success in the descents (the first of the season) of the European Cup staged on the “Deborah Compagnoni” of Santa Caterina Valfurva.
The best among the jet men was Maximilian Lahnsteiner: the 24 year old from Upper Austria, winner of the first round yesterday, today finished in second place (taking the lead in the overall standings of the European Cup after seven races), beaten by 37 cents from compatriot and contemporary Clemens Nocker, also in his first career success with the triumph in the second downhill.
After the 9th place of Florian Schieder and the 14th of Pietro Zazzi in race 1, in today's appointment the two leading Azzurri have definitely raised the bar: 15 cents behind the Swedish Olle Sundin, who occupied the third step of the podium, and 7 tenths from the winner Nocker, here is the South Tyrolean and the Bormino in fourth place ex-aequo, really one step away from the podium that would have been shared.
On the podium on Monday, the Swiss Roesti and Chabloz this time had to settle for seventh and eighth place (also preceded by the Iberian Etxezarreta), while the third blue in the points was an excellent Mattia Cason, able to seize 12th place. Without Giovanni Franzoni at the start, Italy placed four other athletes in the points with Federico Paini 18th, Nicolò Molteni 26th, Francesco Gatto 27th and Federico Simoni 28th.
And Italy will again host the next stage of the men's circuit, Thursday and Friday with the two slalom scheduled on the splendid "Aloch" in Pozza di Fassa, where the same blue World Cup team is training, with Vinatzer and companions who will compete on the home track as the last test before the seasonal debut in CdM.
