The FIS ratifies the "displacement" of the rule prohibiting the use of oxygen: the Luitz case has changed the rules

Officiality has arrived from the international federation: here's what changes from now on ...

We are talking about the ratification by the FIS of the "displacement" of the rule which prohibits the use of oxygen during official competitions. Translated: the case of Stefan Luitz leads to the modification of a rule that jumped to the headlines last winter and that put the body chaired by Gianfranco Kasper in a position of embarrassment, especially after the ruling of the CAS, which, when the season almost ended , overturned the sentence of the same FIS that had disqualified the German gigantist, guilty of having taken oxygen between the two manches of the giant (later won) in Beaver Creek, on December 2, 2018. The first and only success in his career returned to Luitz , after having been for a couple of months in the hands of Marcel Hirscher, who had finished 2nd in the race between the wide doors in Colorado. What happens now? As already emerged in the FIS congress at the end of May in Croatia, the international federation had confirmed the prohibition of taking oxygen in the competition zone also for the 2019/2020 season; in order to avoid a new case in court, the prohibition rule was removed from the anti-doping legislation (since WADA does not expressly prohibit the inhalation of oxygen) and is included within the regulation itself, namely the International Competition Rules (ICR) which now includes, in article 222.7, the penalty of disqualification from the competition for those who should violate it. The use of equipment to use oxygen will therefore be prohibited in the competition area, while it will be possible in any other context.
