Marcel Hirscher was elected Alpine Skier of the year for the fourth time by members of the International Association of Ski Journalists after having already received this award in 2012, 2015 and 2016.

The double Olympic champion and winner of the last seven World Cups overall has therefore equaled the previous record of Pirmin Zurbriggen, while at three there are Karl Schranz, Ingemar Stenmark, the only one to win the award three times consecutively, and Alberto Tomba. The champion of the Salzburgerland has preceded the Czech Olympic champion of superG and parallel giant of the snowboard Ester Ledecká: the Skieur d'Or, dedicated to one of the founders of the World Cup, Serge Lang, is indeed open to women and is awarded by 1963.
Over the years the prize has gone to 25 skiers and 16 skiers and the country that has won it repeatedly is Austria with 19 followed by Switzerland with 11. This year for the first time the prize for the best photography dedicated to the memory of Armando Trovati, the historic photographer of the White Circus who died last year of which his sons Alessandro and Marco continue the work. The prize went to the Austrian Hans Bezard for a picture to Patrick Schweiger taken while the Austrian athlete puts on a door of the Kitzbühel descent.
